A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a unit of energy that represents the consumption of one kilowatt of power for one hour. In electric vehicles, kWh is used to describe the capacity of the battery. For example, a battery with a capacity of 60 kWh can theoretically deliver 60 kilowatts of power for one hour, or 30 kilowatts for two hours, and so on. The higher the kWh rating of a battery, the longer the vehicle can travel on a single charge. EV range is often directly correlated to the battery’s kWh capacity.
