Amps (or amperes) are a measurement of electrical current, representing the flow of electrons through a conductor. In an EV, amps indicate how much electricity is flowing from the charger into the battery at any given moment. Higher amperage means more current is being delivered, which can result in faster charging times. However, the amount of current drawn is also limited by the capacity of the vehicle’s onboard charger and the charging station itself. To put this into perspective, amps are analogous to the amount of water flowing through a pipe.
